Open vehicle bill of sale

Before you start

Have the parties’ names and mailing addresses, transfer date, vehicle description, VIN and odometer information ready. A sale needs a price; a gift explicitly records $0 consideration.

The vehicle editor creates a generic draft and a two-copy PDF. It does not transfer title, issue an official odometer disclosure, determine exemptions or generate state-specific forms.

Example transaction

A fictional seller transferring a vehicle for $8,500 records a sale, the agreed price and date, both parties’ addresses and the vehicle identifiers. Selecting Gift instead records $0 consideration; a blank sale price is not a gift.

Keep a copy for each party and complete the required official paperwork separately. Signature and date lines are left blank for signing.

Official resources and source limits

California REG 135 and Virginia DMV guidance are linked below as resources. This generic tool does not reproduce REG 135. Federal VIN and odometer sources were reviewed October 11, 2026; access dates do not establish state sufficiency.

No boat, firearm, state-specific or other document generator is available here. Use the actual DMV form where required; this generic draft does not establish state sufficiency.
